We're very pleased to announce details of our annual fundraising dinner. Entitled a 'Diamond Dinner', it will provide the perfect opportunity for a fantastic night out with friends and family, to celebrate and remember the Queen's Jubilee, the Olympic & Paralympic Games and many other great events durring 2012.
In addition, Lord Strathclyde has accepted our invitation to come to Epping Forest as our guest and after-dinner speaker. He's the longest serving front-bench spokesman for the Conservative Party, having first joined the front bench in the early 1990's, and has been leader of the Party in the upper chamber since 1998, thus serving four leaders of the Party. Before entering politics, he worked as an insurance broker in the City of London. He contested the Conservative Merseyside East seat in the European Parliament election in 1984 before entering the House of Lords in 1985.
The three course evening meal will be held at Chigwell Golf Club, with tickets priced at £55 per person. Dress code is 'glamorous'!
As you may be aware from previous dinners, tickets go fast for this annual event, and space is unfortunately limited, so please return the form below to Jane at Thatcher House as soon as possible.
Dress code "Glamour"!
The Rt. Hon
Lord Strathclyde
Leader of the House of Lords & Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster
Thomas Strathclyde has been Leader of the Conservative Party in the House of Lords since 1998. Although working professionally as a Lloyd’s insurance broker, he's attended the House regularly from his introduction in 1985, and became a full-time parliamentarian since his first ministerial position in 1988. He was elected to remain in the Lords after Labour’s botched reforms of 1999.
In Opposition he has led many successful challenges to the Government in the Lords, championing the right of an independent second chamber to hold the Government to account. He is the author of several studies on the UK constitution and includes "protecting the integrity of the House of Lords & resisting government attempts to turn it into a ‘crony’ house of rubber stampers" as once of his proudest political achievements.
