Delivering a cinema, swimming pool and new sports centre for Epping

St Johns Road

The proposed development to be delivered by the Conservative led Epping Forest District Council will include:

  • A state of the art Sports Centre
  • Swimming Pool
  • A three screen cinema with a bar
  • Retail  (including restaurants)
  • Residential
  • Public amenity space

On Monday 6th January the Cabinet at Epping Forest District Council gave the green light to move forward on the St Johns Road scheme, which will regenerate the old primary school site.It will deliver a new sports centre, swimming pool and cinema for the town, along with residential accommodation, retail and public amenity space.

The council is aware of the need to provide adequate parking for the new usage of the site and to maintain existing spaces. Solutions are being explored,

Whilst the site is being developed the current Epping Sports Centre, on Hemnall Street, will remain open until the new sports facility is built on the St John's Road site.

In the coming weeks hoardings will be put up around the site. A planning application will be submitted later this year. Before the application is submitted there will be consultation with the public, including a public meeting (Development Management Forum).  Once the planning process is complete work will begin.

Cllr Holly Whitbread said, "I am delighted this scheme is moving forward. I went to school here and this site is long over due regeneration. It is great to see a new sports centre and swimming pool for Epping, alongside a cinema - all things which local residents want to see. I will push for the swift delivery of this exciting project."
