In March Epping Forest Conservatives held a successful Supper Club at the Theydon Bois Golf Club. The Guest Speaker was Richard Cohen who spoke about Winston Churchill, who was once Member of Parliament for Epping. He gave a fascinating speech, including little known facts and details.
Richard Cohen who is a solicitor and former District Councillor is a devoted part-time historian and archival researcher. Over the years he has lectured on Churchill, Disraeli, the history of Israel and the story of Sir Jack Cohen. Richard helped research and proof read ‘Churchill, Walking with Destiny’ by Prof Andrew Roberts.
The members really enjoyed the excellent speech and delicious meal. There were lots of questions about Churchill, his local links and national legacy.
In Epping Forest we are so proud of our links to Churchill. Dame Eleanor Laing has been working hard with councillors to see a statue to commemorate the great man in the constituency. Next year on the 100th anniversary of him becoming the Member of Parliament for Epping we will celebrate his legacy as a party and as community.
